PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Greetings Metrolina Dental Hygienists!
The Metrolina Dental Hygiene Society will resume its regular meetings this year on September 11th, 2007. September 11th is a solemn and somber day for all Americans as we remember the horror and tragedy of the day the world changed on September 11th, 2001. Change is an inevitable condition that we continually face, whether planned or unplanned, wanted or unwanted, good or difficult. Let us always remember the sacrifices others have made that we may live to work for positive and healthy changes in our homes, schools, jobs, communities, associations, and relationships.
Speaking of change, the Metrolina Dental Hygiene Society’s (MDHS) leadership will change at the first fall meeting, as we say thank you to departing officers for jobs well done and install a new slate of officers. MDHS has experienced much change over the last two years under Past-President Linda Taylor’s exceptional leadership. Despite the many meeting location changes, attendance has grown and held steady to “at room capacity”. It has become clear that in order to get a seat and dinner, we have to get there early! Please note that we will continue to provide Bear Rock boxed dinners for those who RSVP at least 48 hours in advance at

I was fortunate enough to attend the American Dental Hygienists’ Association’s (ADHA) Annual Session in New Orleans this past June. ADHA is experiencing exciting changes, too. Formed in 1923 to promote and protect the interests of the dental hygienist, ADHA has grown to over 35,000 members in 51 constituents, over 300 components, and in several foreign countries. Approximately, 40 staff members service ADHA members from the home office in Chicago, Illinois. I invite you to come to the meetings and learn what ADHA, the largest professional organization representing the interests of dental hygienists, is doing for you, to empower you in unleashing your potential! My pledge is to make this the best year ever for Metrolina Dental Hygienists, and I look forward to working with all of you to make that pledge “change” to a reality!

Hope everyone had a great summer and is ready for an exciting year in dental hygiene. Lots going on in NCDHA! If you are not already a member, I would encourage you to join now. Not only would you be supporting the professional organization that is working for you here at home, but you would also get to attend all of our wonderful and informative meetings and enjoy a free dinner after a long day’s work, with your CE fees at the MDHS meetings would be included as well.
I hope you are planning to attend our Fall Scientific Meeting and House of Delegates (HOD) in Greensboro September 28-30. This is a great way to get CE and support the organization. More information on cost and speakers/topics at www.NCDHA.org.
All those who signed up to be Delegates, please call me at 704-680-4352 so that I can go ahead and reserve your room.
