Purpose
The North Carolina Dental Hygiene Academy of Advanced Studies is a non-profit organization that was developed by the NCDHA Continuing Education Committee and approved by the 1982 NCDHA House of Delegates to provide a means for:
- encouraging and promoting participation in continuing education.
- recognizing licensed dental hygienists who strive to maintain and elevate their professional competence through participation in continuing education.
- recognizing dental hygienists who assume leadership roles in the professional organizations and who make significant personal contributions to the dental hygiene profession.
- strengthening NCDHA membership and thereby enhancing the Association’s achievement of purposes stated in Article III of its Constitution: “to improve the oral health of the public, to advance the art and science of dental hygiene, to maintain the highest standards of dental hygiene education and practice, to represent and protect the interests of the dental hygiene profession, to improve professional competence of dental hygienists, to foster research in oral health, and to provide professional communication.”

Benefits
Reward in the form of recognition for significant personal contributions to the dental hygiene profession or to dental hygiene education through continuing education. This is accomplished through general/senior membership induction, certificates, ribbons, honorary/life plaques, and membership rosters.
A letter of recommendation to a prospective employer which verifies participation in continuing education for continued competence. This is provided, as needed, by the NCDHAAS Chairman of the Board.
A continuing education registry to record participation in continuing education activities. This is provided by the NCDHAAS Membership Chairman.
Dues
None Currently.
Organizational costs were supported by a grant from the Dental Foundation of North Carolina.
Operational costs thereafter have been realized from Academy sponsored continuing education courses.

Meetings
The Academy meets in the Fall of each year for the purposes of recognizing and inducting members, creating policy, and electing the Academy Board of Directors.
