Dr. Nigel Shaun Matthews

Dr. Nigel Shaun Matthews is the Director of Telehealth and Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of North Carolina, Adams School of Dentistry, having been recruited from King’s College Hospital, London in December 2014, where he practiced as a Consultant Surgeon for 11 years.

He completed his specialist training at Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland and developed a specific interest in both TMJ and facial deformity surgery.

In 2009, Dr. Matthews established the first true TMJ Multidisciplinary Team Clinic in the United Kingdom, a model that is now being adopted internationally. He held the position of Project Lead for the Hospital’s Telehealth Clinic Initiative after securing a $60,000 grant to develop the concept.
