Over 40 percent of North Carolinians live in one of the state’s rural counties, often with limited access to oral health care. The state of North Carolina has two counties without a practicing dentist, and the
majority of dentists practice in just 5 of the 100 North Carolina counties. Consequently, then, the state ranks 37th in dentists per capita, and many North Carolinians suffer from suboptimal oral health care due to access barriers.
Teledentistry offers tremendous opportunity for increasing access to oral health care, but regulatory limitations exist in North Carolina that impede its widespread adoption. Join Dr. Zachary Brian and Dr. Shaun Matthew for an in-depth look at teledentistry, North Carolina’s oral health challenges, and how diverse stakeholders across the state are committed to advancing policy changes necessary to support increased access through teledentistry.
